The last 12 months have seen radical change around the world, whether through the shift to environmental concerns or a drive for greater equality between genders, in fact, few industries have escaped revolutionary change in the last 12 months.

Marketing has also seen a considerable period of change in 2019 and as our articles in the latest edition of our magazine INsight will attest, there is a lot of things that firms need to be prepared for in the year ahead.

To help you try and get ahead of the curve, we have compiled our predictions for 2020 so that you can create campaigns that go with a bang.

Got to keep moving

Images have never been more important on social media and we have seen an explosion of custom cartoons, infographics and photos flooding people’s feeds. One of the world’s largest and fastest-growing social media platforms Instagram is, of course, entirely built around images.

So where are we heading next?

It may not seem revolutionary, but moving images are the next big thing. I am not just talking videos though, GIFs, boomerangs and live streaming are becoming more and more popular amongst all social media users.

We have seen the growth of video sites, such as TikTok, taking hold of young people’s lives and where youngsters lead on social media lead everyone tends to follow.

If you have visited our social media feeds recently, then you will see how we are employing videos and GIFs to great effect. It is all about being creative and bold so that you stand out.

More is less

There is, and always has been, a temptation to write ‘scripture and verse’ on a subject to show off your expertise, but when it comes to email marketing, websites and flyers it has never been more important to be concise.

Shorter attention spans, a higher volume of marketing materials received and a drive towards clean design mean that sending out reams and reams of information is no longer the ‘done thing’.

That’s not saying you shouldn’t explain the reasons why you are so great at what you do, but at the end of the day, clients don’t need to know the complete ins and outs of the issues they face – that’s why they instruct you and your firm to help.

Get together

Brands need to encourage their clients to get together and share stories of their success. Whether that is through physical events or giving them platforms to share experiences online.

Commonly referred to as community marketing, many brands have already started using online venues for consumers where they can share their interests, ask questions and build relationships.

It seems in a world where many people feel isolated due to their busy lives, they are craving a community. Firms could consider this to be the evolution of networking and referrals.

The rise of the chatbot

Love them or hate them, there is a growing expectation that any company with an online presence should offer a chatbot service.

Technology has moved on a long way and clever AI is now able to handle much more complex enquiries, without the need for human assistance.

Whether this type of technology is suited to the world of finance, accounting and the legal profession is yet to be seen, but it is proving to be very successful in other sectors, so it is something that needs to be considered if you plan to update or create a new website.

Digital advertising

Many firms are now switched on to the use of digital advertising via social media and Google. However, evidence suggests that this continues to be an area of growth that is outstripping more traditional methods, such as print and broadcast media.

Unfortunately, thousands of businesses are now switched on to this tool and competition is fierce and so many expect spending in this area to increase substantially. This is one area where our expert advice can make a significant difference and ensure a campaign achieves the most, whilst spending the least.
